About Jeep Safari Zakynthos
Our Jeep Safari programme is designed to take you away from mainstream tourism and show you the authentic traditional beauty of the island. Showing you some of the highlights of Zakynthos which only can be experienced by off-road vehicles.
Your Jeep Safari day begins between 08:30 and 09:15, with pick up from your accommodation. First stop is Kiliomenos, a small mountain village with a rare bell tower. This is the meeting point of our other Jeeps and the route will be explained to everybody. At the same time there is an opportunity to have a coffee, frappe or nicely fresh squeezed orange juice. Then we go off-road, to the highest point of the island, Vrachionas mountain located 756m above sea level. We drive along the countryside passing the 2 villages Louha & Giri, who survived the big earthquake of 1953. The villages are surrounded by lush landscape pine and olive trees adding to the experience. When we reach the highest point, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the excellent views and to take panoramic pictures, only able to viewed from this point.
Driving then passing through Maries village with a combination of “on” and “off-road” travel, towards Anafonitria or Kampi. Both traditional mountain villages are reachable through typical Zakynthian landscapes: mountains, olive groves, stone fences, cypresses stone build houses, etc. In Kampi or Anafonitria we stop for lunch. Our lunch stop is, for approx. one hour at locally run family tavern. Welcoming you with a variety of Zakynthian dishes or grilled food you will really enjoy in the warmest of atmospheres (lunch is not included in the price of the trip).
Once back into the Jeeps, we drive again through scenic countryside passing the monastery of Saint Georgios Krimnon, which was inaugurated by the priest Makarius and monk Varlaam Beletis. This then takes us to our next stop, the iconic “shipwreck”. Viewed from above, the “shipwreck” one of the most photographed places in the world, can be seen from the viewing platform and you are able to take pictures and see a view that you will never forget. The “shipwreck”, the beach and the crystal blue Ionian sea, will simply take your breath away, a must see for any toyrist visiting Zakynthos.
After the magnificent spectacular views, there is a choice, of you can either go on boat trip to the Blue Caves or swimming at Xygia beach. We can reach Blue Caves from Skinari at Faros point, where a small glass bottom boat will transport you to the caves where you can dive in and swim if you wish (price of the boat is not included in the trip price). If you choose Xygia beach, we will drive east across the island, where you can swim in the crystal clear waters and simply relax and soak up the sun.
Our last stop is the Organic family run farm in the village of Kallithea. “Therianos” Organic Farm is a treasure trove of local products and a presentation will be given by the owners, explaining the working and harvesting methods, whilst the tasting and sampling can give you a real taste of this products, including Olive oil, Raisins, Wine and Cosmetics.
We then finally make our way back to your respective accommodation, arriving approx. 17:00. We thank you for choosing our Jeep Safari.
